I have a firewire 800 card and an external firewire 800 drive which runs so fast - faster than the SATA external drives - far faster. Firmtek said the problem is not with their product but with the G5. I did respond to another post with the identical problem. Hopefully we can get some other voices going here. No improvementĭo you not have a dual SATA capacity on your computer. I tried every slot, even taking all of the other cards out and putting the SATA card in each slot and rebooting. Strange how the card was advertised to work with any computer with a PCI card capacity. The people at Firmtek said the problem was with the internal bus of my computer. I was doing better with a firewire 400 drive. I got terrible performance from the external sata drive (Diamondmax 10). These results are reasonably repeatable, and I also have a Raptor 74 as a scratch disk which shows similar trends especially the very slow Random Uncached Write 4K.
